This luxurious cummerbund is made with haikenchi, a facing fabric woven with great care by artisans using traditional methods in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading silk textile production areas.
The fabric has extremely high yarn density, giving it a very fine, moist texture and a substantial, firm feel.
These qualities can only be felt in premium materials like haikenchi.
They are clearly reflected in its appearance as well, with an elegant, refined luster that is never gaudy.

The haikenchi used here is woven in a small textile workshop in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading silk fabric production areas. Fujiyoshida is a historic production area whose tradition dates back to the Heian period. This land, where spring water from Mt. Fuji wells up, has the clean water essential for good dyeing. By weaving slowly on shuttle looms, the fabric retains air and gains dimensionality, and artisans constantly inspect it for any flaws. Dyeing, spinning, warping, and weaving are all carried out under strict quality control by artisans, each working to make a better product for the customer.
