(What is Kyoto's woven tortoiseshell?) Woven tortoiseshell is a technically processed three-layer structure consisting of two clear acrylic panels, materials such as woven fabric or Japanese paper between them, and acrylic resin that is encapsulated with the materials. By encapsulating the material in a natural state, rather than stretching it taut, the unevenness is expressed, allowing the charm of the textile and washi paper to be conveyed as is. Therefore, its appearance changes depending on how the light hits it, allowing you to enjoy a variety of expressions.
[What is Nishijin-ori?] It is a general term for high-quality silk fabrics woven in "Nishijin" in Kyoto City, and does not refer to a specific fabric, but rather to the many types of fabrics produced. There is no other production area that has woven so many masterpieces, always led the Japanese tie-dyeing technique, and continued weaving fabrics for over 1,000 years. Jacquard weaving is a technique used in Nishijin that involves dyeing the thread first to create a woven pattern. Compared to piece-dyed fabrics, in which white textile is dyed or printed afterwards, jacquard weaving has a deeper, more luxurious look.
