[New Feature] Finding products with search is now easier

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

This week, we made a set of improvements to ApparelX product search. Even when materials go by different names or spellings, the items you are looking for are now easier to find.

Search without worrying about spelling variations

Search ignores differences between upper and lower case and between full-width and half-width characters. Product codes can also be searched without hyphens or spaces. For example, “AK-1800” and “AK1800” give the same results.

Words with the same meaning are searched together

Words with the same meaning are now searched together. For example, searching for “zipper” also finds items listed as “zip” or “zip fastener”. Items that match the exact word you typed are listed first.

When synonyms are included, a notice appears above the search results. To see only items that match exactly what you typed, click “Search only for …” next to the notice.

Items with a similar meaning are also shown

AI now reads the meaning of your words and also shows items with a similar meaning. For example, “stretchy fabric” finds stretch materials, and “cool fabric for summer” finds fabrics with a cooling feel.

Items that match your words and items with a similar meaning are shown together in one list. Items whose product code matches exactly are still shown at the top, as before.

Help when nothing is found

When there are only a few matches, the search also tries splitting the words you typed. When nothing matches, it corrects likely misspellings (for example, “ziper” becomes “zipper”) and suggests shorter words and categories.

More helpful suggestions in the search box

When you type in the search box, categories such as material, style, and maker now appear as tiles above the items, together with the number of items. Click a tile to open the search page filtered by that category.

Typing words such as “password” or “order” also shows pages like password reset, order history, and how-to guides as tiles you can open right away. Pages for members only are marked “Login required” and open after you log in.

Use “See all results for …” below the suggestions to go straight to the search page. Pressing Enter without selecting a suggestion also opens the search page. You can also choose tiles and items with the arrow keys.

Searching by product code works as before. Items whose product code matches exactly are shown at the top.
