This luxurious
cummerbund is made with Hakigen-ji, woven with care and devotion by artisans using traditional methods in
Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading
silk textile-producing regions.
It uses a high-end silk fabric also used for the lapels of formal men’s wear such as tailcoats and tuxedos, and its beautiful luster and smooth hand are proof of its authenticity.
*Bow ties are sold separately.
The Hakigen-ji used here is woven in a small
weaving workshop in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading silk fabric-producing regions. Fujiyoshida is a historic production area that dates back to the Heian period. This land, where spring water from Mt. Fuji emerges, has the clean water necessary for good dyeing.
In the weaving process, Yamamoto’s mixed-weave Hakigen-ji uses as many as 13,000
warp threads in a width of just 47 cm, and the
weft uses 120-
denier yarn twisted double into an astonishing 240-denier thickness.
By weaving slowly on a
shuttle loom, the fabric traps air and gains a three-dimensional feel, and artisans constantly inspect it for any flaws. Dyeing, reeling, warping, and weaving are all carried out by craftsmen under strict quality control to create the best possible product for our customers.
