The hakkin-ji used is woven in a small textile workshop in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading silk fabric production areas. Fujiyoshida is a historic production region that dates back to the Heian period. This land, where spring water from Mount Fuji wells up, has the clean water essential for good dyeing.
In the weaving process, Yamamoto’s blended hakkin-ji uses 13,000 warp threads in a width of only 47 cm, and the weft uses 120-denier yarn that is twisted double to create an astonishing 240-denier thickness.
By weaving slowly on a shuttle loom, the fabric becomes air-filled and three-dimensional, and craftsmen constantly inspect it for any flaws. Dyeing, spinning, warping, and weaving are each carried out under strict quality control by artisans, with the aim of making the best possible product for our customers.
