The facing fabric used is woven at a small textile workshop in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, one of Japan’s leading silk fabric production areas. Fujiyoshida is a historic production area that dates back to the Heian period. This land, fed by spring water from Mount Fuji, has the clean water needed for good dyeing.
In the weaving process, Yamamoto’s blended facing fabric uses as many as 13,000 warp threads in a width of just 47 cm, and the weft uses 120-denier yarn twisted into a double strand to create an astonishing 240-denier thickness.
By weaving slowly on a shuttle loom, the fabric traps air and has a three-dimensional texture, and artisans constantly inspect it for any flaws. Each stage of dyeing, silk making, warping, and weaving is carried out under strict quality control by craftsmen, with the customer in mind and a commitment to making a superior product.
