Definition and Overview

Braided elastic is a stretchable material made by placing elastic thread or elastic yarn at the core and braiding fiber threads around it. A round cross-section is typical, but a flat shape is also used depending on the application. It is used for gathering in garments and for elasticity in sections where cords are threaded through.

Materials and Structure

Flat braided elastic is used for narrow-gather specifications and around the waist of light clothing. However, for areas that require strong holding power, flat elastic webbing or woven elastic with different widths, thicknesses, or structures may also be compared.

Selection and Handling Notes

When selecting, check not only the stretch needed for the application, but also recovery after repeated stretching, ease of threading during sewing, and feel against the skin through prototypes. When sewing it in place, the stretchability may decrease depending on the position pierced by the needle or the sewing method, which can damage the elastic yarn.

Elastic yarn can deteriorate due to heat, ultraviolet light, sweat and sebum, detergent components, and aging, and may become overstretched or hardened. Washing and drying conditions should be set according to the materials and accessories of the entire product, not braided elastic alone, and excessive heat should be avoided.
