Hello. I’m Kimura from the ApparelX trend blog.
As the days gradually begin to feel a little more like spring during the daytime, it’s the season when you start wanting to wear clothes with a springtime feel.
Today, I’d like to introduce floral patterns and flower prints, which are also a trend for 25SS.
・The background behind the floral trend
Floral patterns are one of the designs that have repeatedly come into fashion since long ago. They have gained popularity with different interpretations in each era and have returned many times as a fashion trend.
Past floral trends looked like this.
1960s – Hippie & Psychedelic Floral patterns exploded in popularity as a symbol of flower power. Bohemian styles and colorful psychedelic prints were the hallmark.
1970s – Romantic & Retro Small vintage-inspired floral prints became popular. Feminine dresses with frills and gathers were in demand.
1990s – Grunge & Natural Influenced by the floral shirts worn by Kurt Cobain, floral patterns were incorporated as part of the grunge style. Long dresses paired with Dr. Martens became a standard look.
2010s – Millennial & Vintage Revival Vintage floral dresses came back into the spotlight. Brands such as Miu Miu and Gucci incorporated floral patterns into their collections with a modern twist.
One floral trend that stands out clearly in my memory is the so-called “forest girl” style that was popular around 2006 to the 2010s.
That natural, girlish style centered on floral dresses and also included lace, lace-up boots, straw hats, and more.

By combining dark-romantic antique-style small floral prints with fur and metallic items, the look becomes mode rather than overly cute.
・Loewe

The nostalgic, large floral pattern has an elegant feel, but because it is made from a sheer textile, it doesn’t feel too strong and instead gives a soft, delicate impression.
・Miu Miu

Small floral prints in soft materials and colors have a charming, fanciful cuteness. They also pair well with leg warmers, which are one of Miu Miu’s recent look icons, and have a strong affinity with balletcore.

Marni

The vivid rose motif in a striking, memorable color stands apart from the other brands’ more melancholy floral patterns and feels very much like Marni.

The Seven Berry Nostalgia Collection is appealing for its nostalgic coloring and calm sweetness.
It would also work well as a blouse and skirt set-up.

This is a shirting textile with a classical floral pattern.
A classic design with matching fabric frills to coordinate with the pattern would also be nice.

This cotton textile features a gorgeous large floral pattern. It is a product with a wide variety of flower color variations, such as marguerites.
For large motifs like this, I’d like to make a dress or flared skirt with plenty of fabric so the pattern can really be appreciated.

At first glance it looks like an embroidered textile, but if you look closely, the checkered textile has a floral embroidery-style print applied to it.
An embroidered textile has texture and is heavier, but because this is a print, even though the design is detailed, it is thin, lightweight, and easy to handle.

Thank you for reading to the end.
25SStrends feature many cute items such as lace and floral patterns, starting with sheer materials, which are becoming a standard trend, and they’re exciting just to look at!
I’m looking forward to seeing items that successfully incorporate trends into each brand’s image.
At ApparelX, we carry not only the textiles introduced here but also many accessory materials such as buttons and zippers, so please take a look!
