Following on from last time, we are introducing functional materials for comfortable summer wear.
This time, it's COOLMAX®.

It is a functional material developed by DuPont in 1986 and now owned by Lycra, which was acquired by Shandong Ruyi Technology Group in China.
I feel like COOLMAX® has been on men’s apparel hangtags for quite some time, but I didn’t realize it had a history of more than a quarter of a century.
The main feature is the fiber cross-section. The thread cross-section has a special shape, with grooves.
This cross-sectional shape creates capillary action.
Capillary action is the phenomenon in which, when a very thin tube is placed in a liquid, the liquid level inside the tube becomes higher (or lower) than the liquid level outside the tube.
We’re getting into scientific territory here, but in other words, the fine grooves in COOLMAX® fibers act like capillaries, efficiently drawing sweat away from the skin.
The sweat that is drawn away then evaporates on the textile surface.
Thanks to the latent heat of vaporization during this evaporation and its excellent breathability, COOLMAX® keeps the inside of the textile cool.

One of COOLMAX®'s major features is its excellent care properties.
First of all, its moisture absorption and quick-drying properties make laundry dry quickly, which is great for daily care, and it can also be ironed with a pressing cloth. It also has excellent dimensional stability.
Dimensional stability simply means whether or not it is prone to wrinkling.
Seen this way, it makes sense that it started out in sportswear and later became widely used in men's business apparel.
