Hello.
Following on from the previous article, we are introducing functional materials for staying comfortable in summer.
This time, it is COOLMAX®.

It is a functional material developed by DuPont in 1986 and now owned by Lycra Company, which was acquired by China’s Shandong Ruyi Technology Group.
I feel like COOLMAX® has long been seen on hangtags in men’s clothing, but I did not know it had a history of more than a quarter of a century.
The biggest feature is the fiber cross-section. The yarn cross-section has a special shape (a grooved shape).
This cross-sectional shape creates capillary action.
Capillary action is the phenomenon in which, when a very thin tube is placed in a liquid, the liquid level inside the tube becomes higher (or lower) than the liquid level outside the tube.
Things are getting scientific, but in short, the fine grooves in COOLMAX® fibers act as capillaries, efficiently drawing sweat away from the skin.
The sweat that is drawn away then evaporates on the textile surface.
COOLMAX® keeps the inside of the textile cool through the latent heat of evaporation during this sweat evaporation and its excellent breathability.
Special fiber cross-section → quickly absorbs sweat through capillary action. → Excellent breathability quickly releases sweat as vapor. → The latent heat during vaporization lowers the temperature of the textile surface. → Because the fabric is highly breathable, the breeze passing over the cooled surface feels pleasant.
A major feature of COOLMAX® is its excellent care performance.
First of all, its moisture absorption and quick-drying performance is great for daily care because laundry dries quickly, and it can also be ironed with a pressing cloth. It also has excellent dimensional stability.
Dimensional stability simply means how easily it wrinkles.
Seen this way, it is understandable that it has come to be widely used, starting with sportswear and then men’s business clothing.

In recent years, COOLMAX®︎(COOLMAX®︎ECOMADE), made from recycled used plastic bottles and other materials, has also been released.

ECO-9900 COOLMAX® Ecomade Pique Knit
This is a pique knit fabric made from COOLMAX®︎ECOMADE.
In addition to moisture absorption and quick-drying performance, it also has UV-cut processing, making it a recommended fabric for summer sportswear and T-shirts.

We expressed combed tropical fabric with a linen-blend COOLMAX_ material.
It is a new-style material that combines the dry feel of the textile with functionality such as moisture absorption, quick drying, and stretch, along with a vintage-like look.
