It is Ventile waterproof textile.
Today, I would like to introduce the origins of Ventile and why it is getting so much attention.
When it comes to waterproof textiles, GORE-TEX is widely known to be extremely excellent.
However, before GORE-TEX became widespread, there were many older waterproof textiles like Ventile.

I believe the person who invented it was a textile expert who was deeply knowledgeable about fiber properties and weaving methods.
Early Ventile textiles were woven using 100% Egyptian long-staple cotton thread, with a high count and low twist, making them extremely durable.
Only a few percent of cotton can meet these strict conditions.
It also uses 30% more thread than conventional textiles. The waterproofing principle of Ventile is that when the air is dry, the gaps between the warp and weft threads are about 10 microns, allowing breathability.
When the garment gets wet, the threads expand and the gaps between the warp and weft threads shrink to 3 to 4 microns, effectively preventing rainwater from continuing to penetrate.
It is not just a fabric, but something with historical significance.
Ventile began when D.P. Weaving in Lancashire, England developed it for military use.
Ventile refers to a high-density cotton textile woven by pushing ultra-fine cotton thread to the limit and increasing the weave density beyond its limit.
At that time, when fighter planes were shot down in aerial combat over the sea and pilots fell into the ocean, there were no waterproof or cold-weather textiles, and it was extremely difficult to endure the cold until rescue arrived.
That is why Ventile, a tightly woven, high-density cotton textile, was created.
Ventile, woven at high density, repels water and saved pilots' lives.
Even today, despite the development of many high-performance materials, it is still used in military uniforms—a truly outstanding material.
I believe many brands were impressed by the story behind this textile and have continued using it to this day.
For example, Nigel Cabourn, the founder of Nigel Cabourn, often uses Ventile textile.

OS2300 Ventile 40/2 gabardine A somewhat thick material with firmness and resilience. It is characterized by a moderate sheen and a crisp texture.
OS2301 Ventile 60/2 gabardine Compared with OS2300, it is thinner, but because the weave is dense, it does not look loose and has a substantial fabric feel. Like OS2300, it also has a very beautiful sheen.
OS2302 Ventile 40/2 weather cloth
Compared with the two gabardines above, it has a more matte impression.
It has a moderate sheen, but is a calm material with firmness and a certain stiffness.
OS2303 Ventile 60/2 weather cloth
It has a crisp, slightly thin fabric feel, with a slight sheen on the surface, but overall a more matte atmosphere.
Compared with OS2302, it feels smoother, has less surface irregularity, and is on the softer side.
