Today, there was an internal MORITO briefing session at the company.
I listened to a talk about the causes of corrosion in plated products and an introduction to new products.
After hearing about corrosion, I learned that corrosion occurs due to various factors.
I would like to write about what I learned today.
The causes of corrosion are said to include high temperature, high humidity, chlorine, sulfur, acid, salt, gas, and more.
I was surprised that corrosion can be caused by so many different things.
Discoloration caused by high temperature and high humidity can sometimes occur even when items are simply stored in a warehouse.
I heard of an example where the high temperatures and frequent typhoons last summer caused the inside of a warehouse to become hot and humid, and long-term storage led to discoloration.
If storing items for a long period, it seems best to choose a well-ventilated environment that avoids high temperature and high humidity as much as possible.
Also, salt and gas are said to be factors that accelerate corrosion during storage.
In areas along the coast, corrosion caused by salt is said to progress more easily.
Polluted gas in the air can also cause corrosion, so it is best to avoid storing items near parking areas or engine-powered forklifts.
Among the other examples mentioned, the most common was corrosion caused by residue from bleaching agents used on natural materials.
If reducing bleaching agents that do not damage fibers, which are used when bleaching wool and similar materials, remain as residue, sulfurous acid gas is generated and becomes a cause of corrosion.
Even with the same wool coat, only the one used for a bleached white coat may corrode.
By checking whether any bleaching agent remains before making the product, it is possible to make it less prone to corrosion.
There are many factors, and it is difficult to address them all.
By providing the products to be made and the textile to be used, it is possible to propose items suited to that product.
Other countermeasures include using corrosion-resistant stainless steel parts and applying a special surface coating to make them less prone to corrosion.
At this briefing session, I was able to learn about various causes of corrosion.
I think I can also use what I learned today to help prevent corrosion in the metal snap buttons and other items used on my own clothing.
