Hello. This is Kayaba from the ApparelX business division. We are currently receiving many inquiries about fabrics and sewing accessories needed for making masks, but at present manufacturers’ production is not keeping up with demand. In particular, for fabrics using Kurabo’s processing technology CLEANSE®, we are already receiving backordered orders.

Although there are some items where stock is not keeping up, we will share information on fabrics that can be used for masks other than CLEANSE® and other sewing accessories.

It may go without saying, but first we will explain the basic structure of a mask made with fabric. It consists of the outer fabric section (gauze-type textile), the filter sandwiched between them (antibacterial and antiviral treated textile such as CLEANSE® or nonwoven fabric), the shape-retaining tape that fits the nose, and the elastic band that goes around the ears.

Outer Fabric

 WGC401 Double Gauze

This is a soft 40/1 double gauze made of 100% cotton. It can be used as mask textile that can be washed and reused.

 6350 Triple Gauze

This is a three-layer gauze. Its fluffy texture makes it a wonderful material.

 10906 CLEANSE®EX TC Broadcloth

This is a broadcloth made with CLEANSE®, an antiviral functional fiber-processing technology. Among the CLEANSE series, this is the thinnest material and is suited for masks. In addition to this 10906, 10902 CLEANSE®EX 30 Single Yarn Burberry is also used for masks. It is often used as mask textile as is, or as a filter.

 10709 Catlight® 20 Single Yarn Twill

Catlight® responds to light and exhibits various functions. It is a textile that demonstrates photocatalytic effects not only in sunlight but also under fluorescent light, breaking down dirt, deodorizing, providing UV protection, and offering antibacterial functionality. It is surprising that it works even under fluorescent lights. Since it uses nano-level fine particles, it does not affect the hue or texture. It does not have antiviral performance like CLEANSE, so it may be difficult to use as a filter.

 10713 Catlight® 30 Single Yarn Combed Burberry

It uses combed yarn with excellent luster and has a moderate softness and thickness. Catlight® responds to light and exhibits various functions. It is a textile that demonstrates photocatalytic effects not only in sunlight but also under fluorescent light, breaking down dirt, deodorizing, providing UV protection, and offering antibacterial functionality. This also uses nano-level fine particles, so it does not affect the texture, etc. It does not have antiviral performance like CLEANSE, so it may be difficult to use as a filter.

384 GAUDI Fully Dull Tricot Moss Stitch

This is knit (moss stitch) textile. If using a stretchy textile for the outer fabric, I think functional materials with antibacterial, antimicrobial, deodorizing, and similar properties are preferable.

Shape-Retaining Tape (Nose Wire)

YS-H Setup Tape (Shape-Retaining Tape, Hard, 20 m Roll)

Inside the polyester textile is a polyethylene resin like wire, and by inserting it into a hat brim or jacket collar, you can shape it as desired. It can also be used as the nose wire in masks. Unlike conventional tape, it can be sewn directly onto textile, so it can be used for various items. The tape hardness comes in three types: soft, hard, and super hard, and we also offer a wide range of tape widths.

Elastic Band

 MG25 Mask Elastic Band 2 mm~2.5 mm

Its elongation is 3.2 times. It has a moderate rebound and does not sag. It has a soft feel against the skin.

Summary

I expect mask demand to continue for a while, so if we receive any new information, we will let you know.
