Wedding season is fast approaching in the United States. After struggling through the long winter, with snow and freezing cold, May, June, and September are the peak wedding months.

Many couples gather their families and hold beautiful celebrations in lovely weather. (I myself will be going to the U.S. for several days in June to attend my sister’s wedding.)

Here are some major trends to watch this year.

1. Homey, simple weddings: There is a shift toward intimate, friendly events rather than flashy productions. More couples are booking Airbnbs, inviting only family, and holding ceremonies in cottages or cabins surrounded by nature.

2. More outfit changes: Brides are choosing multiple outfit changes, from a wedding dress for the ceremony to a dress for the reception and even loungewear for the after-party.

3. Color palettes for guests: Couples are asking guests to wear specific color palettes, enhancing the overall design and aesthetic of the wedding. This also helps when posting photos on social media!
4. Neutral colors: The design aesthetic is shifting toward softer, more natural tones, moving away from edgier styles.
5. The return of retro: Retro is coming back into wedding trends, including Super 8 mm film, vintage cakes, and nostalgic photo styles.

6. A fusion of tradition and innovation: Pastel wedding dresses create a dreamy atmosphere, and large bows make a playful statement. (Bows were hugely popular last year and have been incorporated into bridal trends too, and I’m not complaining—I think they’re adorable!) For bold brides, boudoir-inspired designs and sleek black wedding dresses break tradition and express sensuality and rebelliousness. The revival of ’90s trends highlights 20th-century charm, with bias-cut satin dresses, structured bodices, and clean lines.
7. Sparkle and glamour: In 2024, brides shine with intricate hair combs, bold statement earrings, and colorful shoes peeking out from under their gowns. Mirror-finish clutch bags and jeweled handbags bring old Hollywood glamour, while silk robes with feather cuffs celebrate femininity and make wonderful memories in wedding preparation photos.
