Is China the biggest sale day? Biggest sales day of the year?

Today is November 11th, and it was just another normal work day, but it was a special day in China.

Today is "Double Eleven" day in China. This day is a major event where major Chinese e-commerce sites such as Tmall and JD.net carry out promotional activities, so in recent years it has become the day with the highest sales of the year.

A variety of products such as home appliances and cosmetics can be purchased at deep discounts, so Chinese internet users are unable to do without their smartphones and computers from morning until night.

Please refer to the image below for sales details. Currency: Yuan

It was found that in 2021, it rose to 965.12 billion yuan (17 trillion yen).

Kokonsetsu (Chinese: 光棍节, Pinyin: guāng gùn jié, guāng kunchie) is ``Singles' Day'' celebrated by the Chinese on November 11th. It is also called "Singles Day".

In China, there is currently a big online shopping bargain on November 11th every year called ``Double Eleven.'' (Renamed to ``Tmall'')'' was started in 2009. In the first year, the daily sales amounted to RMB 50 million, and in 2018, it reached RMB 213.5 billion.

Also, because of the appearance of four sticks in a row, this day is also called ``Koukonsetsu'' (Chinese: guāng gùn jié, guāng gùn jié). It is often translated as "Singles Day" because it means "single person" in Chinese slang. Alibaba's Chairman Jack Ma (English name: Jack Ma) may have had the intention of making this day a day for online bargains, ``to relieve the loneliness of being single by making desperate purchases.'' In any case, there is no doubt that ``Sojuichi'' was a huge commercial success. (Citation: China Cultural Center)

The habit of shopping at Sojuichi is a habit created by commerce, just like buying KFC at Christmas. By the way, in China, people sometimes give apples to each other on Christmas Eve. It means wishing for mutual peace and safety. This custom was created commercially because the Chinese pronunciation of Christmas Eve is similar to the pronunciation of apple.

Many famous people celebrate their birthdays on November 11th. If you want to know more, check out Wiki.
