Today, we’d like to introduce the much-talked-about multifunctional textile Octa, whose orders have been steadily increasing on ApparelX as well!
What is Octa?
Octa textile is a polyester fiber made with hollow fibers that have a special structure developed by TEIJIN FRONTIER.
Ordinary polyester fibers have a round cross-section, but Octa has eight protrusions arranged radially around the hollow fiber, giving the cross-section a shape like a gear or fish cake. These eight protrusions are also the origin of the name Octa, and the word means "8" in Greek.
Thanks to this unique structure, air is trapped inside the fiber, making it possible to achieve multifunctionality that combines warmth retention, moisture absorption and quick drying, and light weight.
Textiles made with Octa are often used as active insulation (warm clothing/dynamic insulation for wear during exercise) in sportswear and outdoor wear, and are a groundbreaking material with the ideal qualities of being "light and warm."

Three features of Octa textile
Light weight
Its biggest feature is how light it is. Thanks to the hollow fiber structure, the fiber itself is extremely lightweight, and compared with polyester fibers of the same diameter, a weight reduction of about 50% has been achieved.
A lightweight textile that integrates batting and lining with a two-layer structure of a brushed surface that traps air and a highly breathable mesh fabric does not require a lining, and is appealing because it places less strain on the body even when worn for long periods and allows easy movement.
Warmth retention
Because of its structure, which can trap a large amount of air inside the fiber, it delivers excellent warmth retention even with a small amount of material.
It protects body temperature from outside cold and keeps you comfortably warm, making it especially ideal for active outdoor scenes in winter and use in cold regions.
Quick drying
Because it quickly disperses and evaporates moisture, it dries fast even when you sweat, so you can stay comfortable without worrying about humidity.
Breathability
Because the gaps in the fiber are large, it is well ventilated and comfortable. Even during exercise, it is less likely to get stuffy, and you can maintain a dry wearing feel even when worn for long periods.

Tricot has the stretchiness characteristic of knitted fabric, while also having good shape stability like woven fabric, combining the advantages of both knitted and woven fabrics.
This Octa textile is characterized by its softly curled-looking pile. Compared with SW5500, the pile lies relatively flatter, so it does not have as much volume.
Compared with tricot knitting, raschel knitting has a coarser gauge and greater lateral movement of the guide bars, so it can be knitted into open fabrics and distinctive various patterns.
This is a relatively new item that started being listed in May 2024, but it is the best-selling Octa textile on ApparelX!
It is very light and has a fluffy sense of volume, making it perfect for those who want volume and warmth retention, but not as much as batting.
To give you an idea of how much volume it has, even when a 1 m length is folded, it is so bulky that it won’t fit in Nekoposu. (from actual experience)
1038304 EVALET® Octa Waltz amunzen
Unlike the other Octa textiles, this type does not have a brushed back side.
The Octa Waltz yarn diffusely reflects light, making it possible to suppress the glossy look typical of synthetic fibers as much as possible.
The firm, textured surface feels comfortable against the skin, and it is a sandwashed surface weave (amunzen) with depth.
