In Japan's zipper market, YKK's metal zippers and YZiP® series zippers hold a large share, but EXCELLA® fasteners are among the most noteworthy. However, buying zippers is a somewhat complicated process because there are many options to choose from, such as tape color, zipper slider, zipper teeth, and more. In particular, the element color of EXCELLA® zippers is unique compared with other metal zippers. Today, we will introduce the appeal of EXCELLA® zippers and the key points to note when ordering them.

What is an EXCELLA® zipper?

Unlike other metal zippers, each tooth of the YKK EXCELLA® is polished on all four sides, so the slider moves very smoothly. As shown in the image above, the zipper teeth have an excellent luster. And the gold-colored teeth are made with real gold, making them truly luxurious. This zipper costs two to three times as much as a regular metal zipper, but that is because it uses high-quality materials and careful polishing, which makes it so expensive.

What chain types are available for EXCELLA®?

EXCELLA® zippers come in two chain types based on the teeth: a standard single-row type and a luxurious double-row type. The double-row type is about twice as wide as the single-row type, and you can feel its substantial weight when holding it. In fact, the biggest difference between them is whether they can be made reversible; only the double-row EXCELLA® zipper supports two-way opening. So why isn't the single-row type made reversible?

If you compare the two types side by side, you can see the difference. The single-row type is more delicate and refined, while the double-row type has a solid, elegant presence.

Choosing the zipper tooth color

There are 12 zipper tooth colors in total! The most popular colors are nickel, antique silver, and black. As for black, there are two types: standard black and black silver. Silver also comes in several variations, such as silver, nickel, and matte white bronze. Compared with other zippers, the chain colors are very diverse, including a very distinctive rose gold (pink gold). Rose gold chains are relatively expensive mainly because the plating process for this color is difficult, which raises the cost.
